U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter on Thursday to announce more spikes in Democratic funding for the Georgia Senate runoffs set for Jan. 5 – races that the New York Democrat has said she is dedicated to fighting for.
More than $280,000 was raised the previous night by grassroots groups to support Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock -- the two Democrats hoping to unseat the state's two Republican U.S. senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
Ocasio-Cortez suggested she believes the dollar figure shows Georgia has more Democratic support than many may have believed.
President Trump appears to have lost the historically red state often considered a sure win for the GOP, by less than half a percentage point -- or roughly 14,000 votes -- to Joe Biden.
Both Senate races were too close to call following voting Nov. 3, making the runoffs necessary.
Ocasio-Cortez has signaled she is making wins for Ossoff and Warnock a priority -- not only to help Democrats gain control of the Senate but also to show centrist Democrats they've been wrong to push back against progressive policies that she believes the party's voters prefer.
“I’m going to be spending my next couple of months doing everything that I can to extend help and offer support to the work of fantastic leaders … to make sure that we don’t have a Republican Senate majority, that we win these races in Georgia, that we secure a Democratic Senate majority,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday.
The runoff elections will determine whether Republicans keep their majority lead in the Senate or if Democrats will achieve a 50-50 split, allowing Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to break tie votes after she takes office in January.
But it’s not just Republicans that Ocasio-Cortez has been pushing back on.
She also took aim at U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Thursday, after the moderate said he would work to prevent any “socialist agenda” being pushed through.
Democrats had hoped to more easily gain the Senate Majority and maintain majority in the House by greater margins during last week’s general election.
The House kept their majority standing, but lost at least six seats giving them one of the narrowest House leads in decades – forcing Democratic leadership to ask why.
'Defund the police? Defund, my butt,' Manchin wrote on Twitter on Wednesday night. 'I'm a proud West Virginia Democrat. We are the party of working men and women. We want to protect Americans' jobs & healthcare. We do not have some crazy socialist agenda, and we do not believe in defunding the police.'
Ocasio-Cortez responded by posting a photo of her staring down Manchin after he stood to clap for Trump during the president's State of the Union address in 2019.
The congresswoman from New York City has pushed back against recent criticism of initiatives like “defund the police” and the Green New Deal, her signature climate proposal, claiming Democrats lost votes because moderate candidates were not able to excite the base.
Yesterday the democrats in the House blocked a pay raise for Congress. Even the democrats could see what bad optics it would be to give themselves a raise when they aren’t doing jack-squat to address the pressing problems of this nation. And speaking of bad optics, socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is super-pissed that she can’t get her hands on more of our money. She even gave us an ultimatum: either we give her more or she’ll get it from “dark money” special interest lobbyists.

House Democrats are pulling a spending bill that would give lawmakers a pay raise for the first time in a decade amid a backlash from swing-district freshmen.
The House is still slated to consider the rest of an appropriations package for other agencies, including the Defense and State departments, but not the section concerning legislative branch operations.
A senior Democratic aide said that consideration of legislative branch spending will remain on hold as lawmakers discuss the pay raise issue.
Close to a dozen vulnerable swing-district Democratic freshmen had submitted or co-sponsored amendments to block the pay raise, underscoring the sensitivity of the issue.
But here’s one democratic freshman who wants more taxpayer money:

What this does is punish members who rely on a straight salary, and reward those who rely on money loopholes and other forms of self-dealing.

It’s not a fun or politically popular position to take. But consistency is important.
ALL workers should get cost of living increases. That’s why minimum wage should be pegged to inflation, too.
Voting against cost of living increases is 1 reason why dark $ loopholes stay open.

After getting scolded about the fact that most people don’t get to vote for their own raises, AOC hit back:
In democratically socialist businesses (like worker co-ops) or methods (like collective bargaining) you actually CAN vote for a worker pay increase.

Democratically socialist businesses? Oh, she means failed businesses. I got it. Also, there are no raises in socialism, which she would know if she weren’t such an embarrassing moron.
Members of the House pull down a $174,000 annual salary, which seems like plenty to live on anywhere except where democrats are in charge like NYC, LA, SF, etc..
Plus, prior to being a US Rep. AOC was a bartender and I have to imagine she was making much less. Even accounting for tips, she’s still raking it in compared to her last job. Maybe that’s what she’s angling for here; to work for tips. I’m on board with that, but she’s going to have to improve the service she gives. Being an idiot do-nothing communist is not going to earn her any gratuity on this bill.
And really, that’s what this is about. Since the House took control last January, they haven’t done anything but hold silly hearings to “get” President Trump. They are called “lawmakers” because their job is to make laws. You wanna raise? Do your f*cking job like the rest of us have to.
